Father of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and son of Abd al-Muttalib; he died before his son was born.
Identity & lineage
- Son of Abd al-Muttalib, chief of Mecca; married Aminah bint Wahb of the Banu Zuhra.
- Tradition links him to the vow of Abd al-Muttalib to sacrifice a son, from which Abdullah was ransomed with camels (recorded in the classical Seerah).
Role in the Seerah
- Died young on a trading journey (near Yathrib/Medina) before the Prophet’s birth, leaving him fatherless from the start.
Death
- c. 570 CE, before the Prophet’s birth; buried near Yathrib in most reports.
