Fatima bint Muhammad (rha)

The Prophet’s ﷺ youngest daughter, wife of Ali and mother of Hasan and Husayn — the only one of his children to outlive him, and (by his own word) “the leader of the women of Jannah.”

One-line: the Prophet’s ﷺ beloved youngest daughter, mother of the Ahl al-Bayt, first of his family to follow him in death.

Identity & lineage

Daughter of the Prophet ﷺ and Khadijah; wife of Ali ibn Abi Talib; mother of al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and their sisters. With Ali, Hasan and Husayn she formed the Ahl al-Bayt of the Mubahala.

Role in the Seerah (this volume)

• The Farewell Hajj — Ali found her out of ihram, perfumed and adorned, on the Prophet’s ﷺ own instruction (she had done Tamattu’).
• The final illness — she came to her dying father, weeping (“O my father, how you suffer”); he consoled her, “your father will not suffer after today.” He whispered to her twice: first that Jibril had reviewed the Quran twice that year, “so my time has come” (she wept); then that she would be “the first of my family to follow me, and the leader of the women of Jannah” (she smiled) — a secret she kept from Aisha until after his passing.
• At his death she rushed in: “O my father, you have answered the call of your Lord… we give the news of your death to Jibril.”

Character & lessons

The Prophet ﷺ would rise to greet her, kiss her forehead, and seat her in his place — a portrait of his tenderness. Her grief at his grave (rebuking Anas, “how could you throw sand on the Prophet ﷺ?”) speaks the sorrow of the whole ummah.

Death

His prophecy held: she was the first of his family to die after him, ~6 months later (11 AH).
