Umm Hani' bint Abi Talib (rha)

The Prophet’s ﷺ first cousin — daughter of Abu Talib and full sister of Ali — who accepted Islam at the Conquest of Makkah and whose grant of protection the Prophet ﷺ upheld.

One-line: the Prophet’s ﷺ cousin whose aman he honoured — “we protect whom you protect.”

Identity & lineage

Daughter of Abu Talib, full sister of Ali and Ja’far; her given name is often reported as Fakhita. She had known the Prophet ﷺ since his childhood but stayed on her ancestral faith until the Conquest.

Role in the Seerah

• During the Conquest she sheltered two of her in-laws fleeing Ali’s anger, locking her door on him. When Ali objected, the Prophet ﷺ upheld her grant: “We protect whomever you protect” — a proof that safe-conduct may be given by any Muslim, including a woman.
• Her narration is the only report of the Prophet ﷺ praying Salat al-Duha himself — she saw him pray eight rak’at after his ghusl on the day of the Conquest (a basis for the fiqh of Duha).
