Usayd ibn Hudayr (ra)

A young chief of the Aws and close friend of Sa’d ibn Mu’adh, among the first great leaders of Yathrib to embrace Islam through Mus’ab ibn Umayr.

Role in the Seerah (EP 025)

• Sent by Sa’d to drive Mus’ab out, he agreed to “sit and listen” — and converted on the spot, then sent Sa’d, who also converted. Their example brought Banu Abd al-Ashhal in.
• A committed member of the Ansar.

Character

Known for the beauty of his recitation: angels descended to listen as he recited the Quran at night (Bukhari) — the Prophet ﷺ told him, “Those were angels drawing near to your recitation.”
