• From private to public. The early da’wah was private, not secret (3 years), then went public on Mount Safa (Quran 15:94; 26:214). Yasir Qadhi frames five legitimate stages of da’wah — the Meccan years being peaceful stage 2.
• Quraysh’s opposition was systematic — ten tactics, from pressuring Abu Talib to bribery to torture. The Quran preserved their very slanders (madman, poet, magician), and even leaders (al-Walid, Utbah, the three eavesdroppers) privately admitted the Quran’s power.

• Two conversions changed everything. Hamzah then Umar (c. 616 CE) brought izzah — the Muslims prayed openly at the Ka’bah for the first time.
• The lowest point. The Boycott (2½–3 yrs), then the Year of Sorrow, then Ta’if — one blow after another, all a precursor to the Hijra. Ta’if’s du’a and the Prophet’s ﷺ refusal to destroy the town display the perfection of his mercy (21:107).
• The “phenomenon of Abu Talib.” The uncle the Prophet ﷺ loved most protected him yet died a pagan — proof that guidance is Allah’s alone (28:56) and that iman is submission, not mere acknowledgement.

Reliability notes (schema §5)

• The “Satanic Verses”: only the Bukhari version (no shaytan) is authentic; the “cranes” additions come via a broken chain in tertiary works (al-Tabari, al-Wahidi) — recorded, not asserted.
• The du’a of Ta’if lacks a complete isnad (Ibn Ishaq) but is widely accepted.
• Exact order/interval of Abu Talib’s and Khadijah’s deaths is disputed.
